Govt to decide on opening educational institutions assessing situation: Dipu Moni
DHAKA, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) – Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said decision of reopening country’s educational institutions will be taken after analysing the pandemic situation and consulting with the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 after February 4.
“Though we have given directives to educational institutions to take preparations for resuming class by February 4 … It depends on the overall pandemic situation and the recommendations of National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19,” she said.
She made the remarks while addressing a discussion virtually titled ‘Recover and Revitalize Education for Covid-19 Generation’ at the conference room of Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU).
The government, however, is yet to take the decision on bringing the students back to classroom in the first week of February, she added.
The minister said, “Initially, after the reopening of educational institutions, the regular classes of only Class X and Class XII will be held with five or six days a week while the students of other classes will come to the institutions once a week and take their tasks for the whole week.”
Besides, the syllabuses of SSC and HSC examinees of 2021 have been minimized so that they can complete their syllabuses easily within two or three months, Dipu Moni added.
She said, “Many people compare us with other countries. But one thing we must remember that the number of students in Bangladesh’s educational institutions is huge and they have to sit in their respective classes crowdedly. So, there’ll be no scope to bring all the students at a time in the educational institutions maintaining social distance.”
Besides, directives were given to all the educational institutions to maintain all the health guidelines, set by the government, she added.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohubil Hasan Chowdhury addressed the discussion as special guest while former Governor of Bangladesh bank Dr Mohammad Farasuddin delivered the keynote speech, with Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division and also BNCU Secretary General Md Mahbub Hossain in the chair.
Secretary of Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Golam Md Hasibul Islam, Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Division Md Aminul Islam Khan and UNESCO representative to Bangladesh Beatrice Kaldun, among others, addressed the discussion.
