Five brick kilns fined Tk 7 lakh in Ctg
CHATTOGRAM, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – A mobile court in a series of drives on Tuesday fined the owners of five brick kilns Taka seven lakh for violating environmental laws and constructing other unlawful structures polluting the environment.
The district administration in cooperation with Department of Environment Directorate, Forest Department, Fire service and Police conducted the mobile court at the five brick kilns in Anwara and Kharnaphuli upazila of the district today.
The mobile court led by executive magistrate Suraiya Yesmin imposed the financial penalty on the owners and managers of the five brickfields located at different areas in Anwara and Kharnaphuli upazila.
The mobile court also seized fire wood from the brickfields during the day-long drive.
Suraiya Yesmin said that the five brick kilns were fined under Brick Manufacturing and kilns Installation Control Act -2013.
She said that the brick kilns were fined for illegally manufacturing bricks by procuring the top soil from agriculture land.
The drive against the illegal brick kilns will continue in Chattogram according to the High Court orders, she added.
