Local administration for involving organisations to combat Covid-19

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2020 (BSS) – The field-level administration has suggested the government to involve commercial, industrial, political and non-political organisations in the campaign to make people aware about wearing facemasks against the backdrop of fresh surge of the Covid-19 as cold intensifies.

“The field level administration has come up with the suggestion as people are reluctant even after being fined by mobile courts for not wearing facemasks,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a news briefing following a regular weekly cabinet meeting.

Anwarul added that they have already instructed the concerned authorities including the commerce ministry and FBCCI to pursue the campaign of wearing facemasks to remain protected from the lethal virus.

The cabinet has discussed in details the situation arising out of the pandemic and the ways to tackle it amid the fresh surge of the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting joining it from her official Ganabhaban residence while her cabinet colleagues got connected from the cabinet division at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

The cabinet secretary said that the premier told the cabinet that she had already instructed her party Awami League, its front and associate bodies to wear facemasks while attending any party program and conduct massive awareness campaign relating to wear masks outside home.

Anwarul also said that the PM asked all concerned to distribute three layers facemask made of cloths among the people as they could use those time and again.

He however greeted the media as they have been conducting massive awareness campaign and sought more cooperation to this end referring to the rising trend of the Covid-19 cases.

“If the intensity of the cold will rise further the infection rate will also increase,” he apprehended requesting all the people to follow the health guidelines particularly wearing facemasks to get yourself protected and thus others around you.
