COVID-19: 14,293 infected, 12,996 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 3, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 14,293 people have been
infected with coronavirus, and of them, 12,996 already cured in
Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues rising in
recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 14,293 as
64 new patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the two
COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Wednesday with the daily
infection rate of 17.02 percent.

Since the beginning, the 14,293 people were found COVID-19 positive
after testing 87,372 collected samples of Rangpur division till
Wednesday with an average infection rate of around 16.36 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 12,996 with the
healing of 46 more infected people on Wednesday with an average
recovery rate of 90.92 percent in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently about 5.56 times higher than
the average infection rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19
and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui
told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the 14,293 patients stands at 3,629 in
Rangpur, 739 in Panchagarh, 1,233 in Nilphamari, 931 in Lalmonirhat,
966 in Kurigram, 1,388 in Thakurgaon, 4,070 in Dinajpur and 1,337 in
Gaibandha districts of the division.

“Besides, the 12,996 recovered patients include 3,029 of Rangpur,
700 of Panchagarh, 1,170 of Nilphamari, 898 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of
Kurigram, 1,194 of Thakurgaon, 3,798 of Dinajpur and 1,279 of
Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the total number of fatalities rose to 267 with one more death
reported from Rangpur in the division on Wednesday.

“The district-wise break up of the 267 fatalities stands at 61 in
Rangpur, 93 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 23 in Nilphamari, 15 in
Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat
districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.87 percent in
the division.

Among the total 14,293 COVID-19 infected patients, 72 are
undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after
recovery of 12,996 patients and 267 deaths while 941 remaining in home
isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 88,962 people of the division were
put in quarantines, and of them, 83,286 released and 5,676 are
currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali
added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force
and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi
Lyzu today said the COVID-19 infection rate again started rising in
recent weeks across the division.

He especially called upon common people for wearing masks while
remaining outside, maintaining physical distance and abiding by the
health directives to remain safe during the second wave of COVID-19
spread in the winter season.
