DHAKA, Nov 29, 2020 (BSS) – Beximco Dhaka is eager to register their first victory in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, putting the nightmare of first two matches behind, when they take on Gemcon Khulna in their third match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The match starts at 6.30 PM.

Beximco lost both of the matches and now languished at the bottom of the table. They failed to score just 9 runs in the last over to win the first match against Minister Group Rajshahi and eventually lost the game by two runs.

Thereafter they produced a worst performance in all departments in the match against Gazi Group Chattogram. They were whacked past by nine wickets after being dismissed for paltry 88 runs.

The time gradually is running out for them as another defeat would surely leave them on the brink of exiting the tournament.

Gemcon Khulna’s condition is also not so good even though they have won a match so far. But their lone victory against Fortune Barishal came through a touch of luck. They were at the brink of a certain defeat as they needed 22 runs to win the game in the last over.

Ariful Haque then produced an unbelievable innings, hitting four sixes in five balls in the last over to help the side win the game by four wickets.

After that victory, they lost their way despite coming to the tournament as the most favourite side. They are bolstered with the likes of Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan, Imrul Kayes and other stars but they just couldn’t justify their favourite tag.

They lost their second match to Minister Group Rajshahi by six wickets and then showed an insipid performance against Gazi Group Chattogram, being all out for 86 runs. Chattogram then crushed them by nine wickets.

Like Dhaka, they are also running out of time as they couldn’t afford another loss.

Khulna captain Mahmudullah Riyad however urged his side to bounce back strongly as they couldn’t produce anything worthy so far.

“Obviously we have a good team but we couldn’t prove it through our performance,” Mahmudullah Riyad after their humiliating nine-wicket defeat to Gazi Group Chattogram.

“Our batsmen couldn’t click as they should. Out batting let ourselves down in two straight matches. I think our top order should take more responsibility in a bid to bail out from this precarious situation.”

Mahmudullah said he himself, Shakib Al Hasan and Imrul Kayes should stand tall to stop the losing streak.

“I think when we start batting well, our problems will be solved. But me, Shakib and Imrul Kayes should take more responsibility. We can’t give our best still,” he remarked.

“But I am very much hopeful about our chance. As a batting group we are talking and discussing our problems. Our bowlers have been doing their job well. We, the batsmen, couldn’t give them enough runs on the board. Hopefully we’ll come back to the form very soon.”
