Cricketers fitness level to be determined through beep test

DHAKA, Nov 8, 2020 (BSS) – Fitness trainer Tusher Kanti Howlader said the cricketers would have to give a beep test to determine their fitness level.

A total of 113 players will attend the fitness test conducted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). On day one tomorrow (Monday), a total of 80 players including Shakib Al Hasan will undergo a fitness test. Later on Tuesday, the rest of the 33 players will attend the fitness test.

The mandatory test is being conducted to determine the fitness levels of players who are expected to be in the draft for the forthcoming Bangabandhu T20 tournament.

“In fact, after a long time, the players have returned to the game. Those who are in the national team and High Performance (HP) Unit have already been able to practice. And they’re pretty much back in their game. And for those who haven’t returned yet, their fitness is the key,” Tusher Kanti said here today.

“The fitness level will be determined through the beep test. We hope that the training that they have done personally, will help them get back to their previous state. Hope the results will be good.”

Although Tusher Kanti didn’t reveal how much the players would have to score in the beep test to prove their fitness, it is learnt, scoring less than 11 wouldn’t be acceptable.

“Beep test was earlier taken for the players, who played BCL and NCL. So, we’ll keep the beep test. There is another test–yo-yo. It’s a new test. But, we’re not doing yo-yo for them right now. Because they are used to beep tests. So, now they will give this test. Then maybe we will introduce yo-yo for them.”

According to Tusher Kanti Howlader, the national and HP players have been in good rhythm after returning to cricket.

“Many of those who are in HP and the national team, are back in good rhythm now. A player roughly needs six weeks to get his rhythm after starting training. Everyone in HP had a yo-yo test ?and they had an average of 18. So, I hope after training it has been 18.5 so far.”
