HC discharges rule over bail over millionaire sub-registry office peon

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today discharged a rule issued over the bail of Yasin Mia, a peon of Brahmanbaria sub-registry office, who allegedly amassed millions through corruption.

“A High Court virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order,” deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik said.

The High Court on August 16 issued the rules, asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why bail shall not be granted to the accused.

Yasin, an inhabitant of Atuakandi in Bancharampur upazila, was arrested on December 6 after reports of his corruption made headlines on several dailies. He was accused of misappropriating more than Taka five crore, by not depositing different government land fees.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) HM Akhteruzzaman of Cumilla Integrated District Office filed a case against Yasin on December 10, 2019.
