Flood situation remains static in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July 4,, 2020 (BSS) – Over all flood situation in Jamalpur remained unchanged despite continuous dropping of water level in the river Jamuna.

According to Water Development Board Jamuna dropped by 17 cm and was flowing 57 cm above the danger mark at Bahadurabad ghat point during last 24 hours ending 12 this noon .

Department of agriculture Extension office sources said standing crops on 13343 hectares have been submerged by flood water .

Aush paddy on 2576 hectares, T-Aman seed bed on 369 hectares, jute on 8715 hectares, vegetables on 1530 hectares, sesame on 21 hectares, ,maize on 17 hectares, banana on 24 hectares, green chilli on 86 hectares and groundnut on five hectares have gone under huge deluge .

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Mohammad Nayeb Ali said as though flood water started receding but the situation is yet to improve .

He said over three lakh 87 thousand 394 people in 49 unions of all seven Upazilas of the district have been affected in the flood.

”A total of 1212 families comprising 6094 people took shelter in 31 flood shelter centres and 34 tonnes rice and TK 11 lakh cash were allotted for the flood victims. “ he said adding that upazila administration are distributing 2000 packets dry food among the flood victims in Islampur and Dewanganj Upazila.

DRRO said the flood also damaged 290 houses completely and 6003 houses partially and 71 km earthen road , 17 km carpeted road, 77 educational institutions and 34 mosques and other places of worship have also been damaged partially.
