Food minister urges officials to work together to ensure food security

DHAKA, May 11, 2020 (BSS) – Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today
urged the officials concerned to work together for carrying out boro
procurement in systematic way in order to ensure food security after the
coronavirus disaster.

“The country is witnessing bumper boro production in the current season
…so, there will be no food problem in the country if the boro is harvested
in due time,” he said in a video conference with the food officials of the
Rangpur division from his residence here.

He, however, stressed the need for joint efforts to make the boro
procurement programme success.

To ensure the food security after the corona crisis, Majumder said each
cultivable land must be brought under cultivation in line with the advice of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. No land would be left uncultivated,he added.

To ensure fair price, the minister said purchasing of paddy should be given
priority for protecting the interest of the farmers,adding that “The
government will purchase 8 lakh tonnes of paddy directly from the farmers.”

The minister discussed various issues including the latest corona situation
of Rangpur district, current boro harvest and the public sector food stock
during the conference.

Food Secretary Dr Mosammat Nazmanara Khanam, Divisional Commissioner of
Rangpur, Deputy Commissioners of Rangpur, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon,
Gaibandha, Dinajpur, regional food controller of Rangpur and district food
controllers,among others,spoke on the occasion.
