DNCC ready to control Culex mosquito menace

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam today said the city corporation is ready to control the Culex mosquito menace as massive programmes in this regard have been taken at concerned areas.

“From October 7, two entomologists and three apprentices in this regard have been appointed to identify all possible breeding sites of Culex mosquito. They have already done research and determined the extent of severity of the Culex mosquito in city-areas. As part of it, mosquito repellent activities are being conducted in the relevant areas.” he said.

The Mayor stated this at a press conference titled ‘Current activities for controlling mosquitoes and a year-long action plan’ organized at Nogor Bhabon in city’s Gulshan area.
He also said a year-long action-plan has been formulated to avert any possible threat of mosquito, including Aedes.

About the responsibility of the concerned ward councillors, he said they have to be alert in this regard as every councilor will be accountable for his or her duty.

Besides, a special fortnightly crash programme is being conducted staring today in the city for making the city free from the mosquito menace, said DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md Mominur Rahman Mamun.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Abdul Hai, its Secretary Rabindra Shree Barua, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Manzur Hossain and Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Syed Ahmed were present on the occasion.
