DHAKA, Oct 23, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has set an ‘example’ by taking actions against her own party men during the ongoing drive against terrorism, extortion, graft and drug abuse.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set an example before the nation by taking actions against her own party leaders … such actions were never taken by any prime minister in the past,” Quader said, speaking as the chief guest at an extending meeting of Dhaka city north Awami League at a city hotel here.
Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, told the meeting that none would be spared if found involved in misdeeds in the tenure of the incumbent prime minister. “Surveillances are in force against those who have maintained relations with criminal activities. Whatever may be their identities, they would be taken into account,” the minister added.
“I am determined to work for the welfare of the people as I have lost all of my kith and kin, so the countrymen are my close one,” said Quader quoted the Prime Minister’s statement to explain her stance against illegal activities.
Speaking at the meeting, the ruling party leader confirmed that Swechchhasebok League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League, President Advocate Mollah M Abu Kawsar has been removed from his post. The move has been taken as per the instruction given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
With Acting President of Dhaka City North Awami League Bazlur Rahman in the chair, the meeting also was addressed, among others, by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dhaka City North AL Vice-Presidents Aslamul Haq Aslam and Nazim Uddin and General Secretary Sadek Khan.
Regarding steps on Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, the Awami League general secretary said, “The 14-party is a strong alliance led by the ruling Awami League, so anyone can go out of the alliance and it would not affect our coalition at all.”
Criticizing the BNP, the Road Transport Minister said BNP is looking for scopes to forge an anti-government movement, adding that they [BNP] had tried to organize a movement over the issue of BUET student Abrar Fahad murder, but they failed.
At last, the BNP tried to wage a movement after spreading ‘rumor’ on the issue of Bhola violence, Quader told the meeting.
Asaduzzaman Kamal said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working hard for building a prosperous country.
