Two prime accused in Badda lynching case give confessional statements

DHAKA, July 26, 2019 (BSS) – Two prime accused, including one of the women that instigated mob to beat Taslima Begum Renu by terming her a child lifter in capital’s North Badda area on July 20, have given confessional statements at the court.

Police today produced Ria Khatun, 35, and Hridoy, 19, before the court and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Millat Hossain recorded their statements under section 164 as they rendered their confession willingly.

After recording their confessional statements, the court sent the two accused to jail.

Police on July 25, arrested Ria Khatun after scrutinizing the video clips of that horrific crime.

Police had been monitoring her movement for last couple of days and shown her arrested on Thursday.

According to police, she is one of those women, who had first labelled Renu as a child lifter and took her to the room of headmistress of North Badda Government Primary School.

Another court on July 25 placed five more accused- Billal Hossain, 28, Asadul Islam, 22, Murad, 22, Sohel Rana, 30, and Raju Ahmed, 23, in the case, on a three-day remand.

Earlier on July 24, another court placed the Hridoy, one of the main accused, on a five-day remand.

Police on the night of July 23 arrested the 19-year-old vegetable vendor from Bhulta area in Narayanganj.

Another court on July 22 placed on a four-day remand the three accused Bachchu Miah, Shahin and Bappi, arrested in the same case.

Another accused Zafar on that same day gave confessional statement before the court and was sent him to jail.

Taslima Begum Renu, 40, a single-mother of two, was brutally beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of being a child lifter, in front of North Badda Government Primary School on the morning of July 20.

It was later learned that Renu went there to take information regarding admission of her daughter Tahsin Tuba, 4, at that school.

Nasir Uddin, nephew of Renu, filed the case with Badda Police Station against 400-500 unidentified people.
