Tigers make excellent comeback to restrict West Indies 261-9

DHAKA, May 7, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh made an excellent comeback to restrict West Indies to 261-9 in their tri-nation series opener at the Castle Avenue in Dublin, Ireland today.

West Indies opener Shai Hope followed his 170 against Ireland with yet another superb 109 while Roston Chase made 51 to lead the Caribbean’s charge after Jason Holder opted to bat first.

The duo shared 115-run for the third wicket stand, utilizing the decent start made by openers as Shai Hope and Sunil Ambris who replaced John Campbell, added 89 runs. Campbell who made 179 against Ireland was ruled out with sore back.

As they looked set for yet another 300 plus total, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza removed both Hope and Chase in the space of three runs across two overs to lead the side’s comeback.

Alongside Mashrafe, Saifuddin and Mustafizur who was taken is disdain by West Indies batsmen initially dazzled with cherry towards the end to shatter West Indies hope to take the side’s score past 300.

The pacers bowling well tandem in the death overs and let West Indies score just 64 runs in the 10 overs.

Left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraj also helped the pacers by strangling West Indies in the middle overs. Shakib conceded just 33 runs in his 10 over to get one wicket while Miraj finished with 10-0-38-1.

Mashrafe was the leading wicket-taker with 3-49 while Saifuddin had figures of 2-47. Mustafizur who leaked runs in abundance initially came back well to finish with 2-84.
