Govt building Padma Bridge with own funds: Shajahan

MADARIPUR, Oct 3, 2018 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan today said
the government is constructing the much-awaited Padma Bridge with self-
funding.

“We do not have to beg to anyone for funding of Padma Bridge as the
government is building the bridge with its self-funding,” he said while
unveiling the cover of a book written by poet Golam Rabbani at Asmot Ali Khan
High School in the district.

The minister said now there is no shortage of electricity and load-shading
crisis in the country.

On the other hand, the people had to suffer a lot due to
load-shading during the regime of BNP-Jamaat alliance, he added.

Shajahan said during the BNP-Jamaat government tenure, the power
generation capacity was 3100 megawatts. Now the electricity production
capacity has reached 18500 megawatts during the incumbent Awami League led
government, he added.

“During the tenure of BNP, there was a 30 lakh metric tonnes food deficit
in the country,” the minister said adding that the incumbent government has
made the country self-sufficient in food with a surplus of 25 lakh tonnes.

Shajahan said the government has been providing allowances for elderly
citizens, widows, disabled people and freedom fighters.

He said the government has made an extraordinary development in all
sectors including health, education, information and communication
technology, power generation and social safety net.

Shajahan urged the people to cast their votes in fabour of Awami League
candidates in the next general election to elect the party again to form the
government for the continuation of the current development trend.
