RAJSHAHI, Sept 28, 2018 (BSS)-The long-cherished 10th convocation of Rajshahi
University (RU) will be held at its stadium here tomorrow.
To mark the jubilation, RU campus including the convocation site has worn a
new look with eye-catching decoration, painting and lighting.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan told journalists that a total of 6,014
graduates will receive certificates in the convocation.
The graduates who earned their masters, MBBS, BDS, MPhil and PhD degrees
between 2011 and 2014 from RU have registered their names to take part in the
convocation.
RU Chancellor and President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh M Abdul
Hamid is likely to chair the convocation.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will attend the function as special
guest while former vice-chancellor of Chattagram University Prof Alamgir
Muhammad Sirajuddin is scheduled to present in the event as convocation
speaker.
Prof Sobhan said RU will confer D. Lit degree on famous writer Selina Hossain
and Professor Hassan Azizul Haque in recognition of their laudable
contribution to Bangla literature. Both of them were students of Rajshahi
University.
President M Abdul Hamid will also unveil the foundation stones of two new
halls. RU is going to construct the two new modern 10-storey dormitories for
the students to remove the existing accommodation crisis.
He also said one of the dormitories for female students will be named as
‘Sheikh Hasina Hall’ while the other as ‘AHM Kamaruzzaman Hall’ for male
students.
Necessary preparations centering the convocation are almost at the final
stage. This time’s convocation will be more decorative and colourful than
that of the previous ones, Prof Sobhan added.
Security measures were strengthened on the campus to mark the convocation.
Meanwhile, the graduates have already started arriving turning the campus
into a reunion coupled with jubilant atmosphere.
