Clashes in Libya’s Tripoli kill 10

TRIPOLI, Sept 22, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Libyan Ministry of Health on Saturday
revealed that Friday’s clashes in the capital Tripoli have killed 10 people
and injured 59 others, including civilians.

The Ministry’s Wounded Affairs Department said Friday’s casualties have
increased the death toll of the fighting between warring parties to 106
deaths and 365 injuries since the beginning of the fighting in Aug. 26.

Clashes continued despite the warning from the UN Support Mission in Libya
on Thursday against attacks on residential areas. The mission also reminded
the warring parties of the signed binding cease-fire agreement and stressed
that exposing civilians to harm is prohibited by International Humanitarian
Law.

Violent clashes continued in southern Tripoli between forces allied with
the UN-backed government and the “7th Brigade” militia from the city of
Tarhuna, some 80 km southeast of Tripoli.

Libya has been suffering insecurity and escalating violence since the fall
of former leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
