GAIBANDHA, Sept 18, 2018 (BSS) – Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman Gold Cup Football Tournament U-17 began at Shah Abdul Hamid
Stadium here on Monday afternoon amid much festivity.
An inaugural ceremony organized by district administration and district
sports office was also held on the occasion with Additional Deputy
Commissioner (General) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the
chief guest while Superintendent of Police Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah,
General Secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique and General
Secretary of District Sports Association Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir
Milon were present as special guests.
Pal said all sorts of sports including football are very essential for
physical and mental development of the children.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government took different initiatives to
arrange sports for the children to help make them physically fit, the DC also
said.
Later, the inaugural match was held between the teams of Sadullapur and
Fulchhari upazilas as Sadullaur team won the match by 3-0 goals.
A large number of people including district and upazila level officials
witnessed the match.
A total of 8 teams from seven upazilas are taking part in the tournament.
