DHAKA, Sept 16, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister and Awami League advisory
council member Tofail Ahmed today said the proposals of ‘Jukta Front’ over
forging national unity are contrary to the constitution which cannot be
accepted.
“The proposals of two elderly leaders of Jukta Front over forging
national unity cannot be accepted as we would not go beyond the
constitution,” he told a press conference after Nepalese Ambassador in Dhaka
Prof Dr Chop Lal Bhusal called on him at the secretariat.
On Saturday, Jukta Front and Jatiya Oikya Prokria, two political
alliances of small parties, at a joint press conference declared ‘national
unity’ and placed a five-point demand and nine-target declaration.
The demands included dissolution of Parliament, deployment of military,
formation of a non-party polls-time government and cancellation of EVM.
Jukta Front is a political alliance comprised of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh
led by Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) led by ASM
Abdur Rab and Nagorik Oikya led by Mahmudur Rahman Manna. Gana Forum
president Dr Kamal Hossain is leading the Jatiya Oikya Prokria.
Tofail termed those proposals as contradictory to the constitution
saying that remarks of Dr Kamal Hossain and others are not acceptable as the
constitution would not allow those.
The minister said the election-time government will conduct routine works
and it would not take any policymaking decision.
Polls-time government will provide all-out cooperation to the Election
Commission to hold the parliament polls in free, fair and peaceful manner, he
added.
The veteran AL leader also welcomed the new alliance saying, “If any
alliance is formed, we welcome it as multi-party democracy exists in
Bangladesh.”
