Community support to spinal cord injuries people stressed

RAJSHAHI, Nov 21, 2017 (BSS) – Speakers in a policy dialogue here today stressed the need for taking adequate measures and providing community support to rehabilitate the people with spinal cord injury.

Afsar Hussain-CRP, Rajshahi divisional branch of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), organized the dialogue titled “Accident and Disability caused by Spinal Cord Injury and its Prevention” at the branch conference hall.

Rights, Rehabilitation, Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities (RRED) Project supported the programme.

During her concept paper presentation, Nushrat Jahan, Project Coordinator of RRED, said the project intends to do welfare of the disabled persons caused by spinal cord injuries.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif addressed the function as chief and special guests respectively with Soma Begum, Center-in-Charge of CRP, in the chair.

Associate Professor and Head of Department of Physical Medicine at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Dr Sujan Al Hassan and Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rashedul Kabir also spoke.

Nur-Ur-Rahman said the community people should take up the responsibility of creating a congenial environment for disable people in the society.

He said time has come to do something for the people with spinal cord injuries ensuring their rights and rehabilitation in the society.

Emphasis should be given on establishing policy and rules to exclusively protect the interests of persons with spinal cord injuries in the society, he added.

The meeting discussed elaborately devising ways and means how to expand the CRP activities for well-being of the people with special cord problem.
