DHAKA, Aug 29, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today put emphasize on strengthening parliamentary democracy to ensure rights of the people.
“Parliamentary democracy would consolidate if the lawmakers play active role in parliament as they are the representatives of the people . . . The parliament is the focal point of all activities,” she said, speaking at the inaugural session of a training programme at an auditorium the JS here.
Bangladesh JS and Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), UK, organized the two-day training titled ‘Fundamentals of the Westminster Parliament and Parliamentary Research Practices’, said a release.
Senior Secretary of JS Secretariat Dr Md Abdur Rab Hawlader gave welcome speech while Director of Commonwealth Programme Sofia Fernandez and Senior Programme Manager of WFD David Thabri also spoke in the inaugural function.
Chaudhury said training can play an important role in strengthening the parliamentary rules and its practices.
“I hope the training given by the WFD to the officials of the parliament will increase their skill and ability,” she added.
