BHOLA, Aug 21, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said the
grenade attack on August 21, 2004 was carried out with the instructions of
BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tareque Rahman.

The then State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babor and his
accomplices orchestrated the plan for caring out the grenade attack on an
Awami League rally held at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, Ahmed said.

“The deadly attack was carried out only to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister added.

The minister made the comments as the chief guest while addressing a
rally at Charsamaya union Kheyaghat Bridge under Sadar upazila in the
morning.

Tofail said Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina and other senior leaders of
Awami League survived from the attack with the blessings of the Almighty. But
24 people, including Ivy Rahman, wife of former president Zillur Rahman, were
killed in the grenade attack.

“It was one of the worst heinous attacks in the history of Bangladesh,”
Tofail noted.

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along
with his family members were killed in this month of August and the killers
again choose the month to kill her daughter Sheikh Hasina.

“We hope that the grenade attack verdict will come within the month of
September,” the minister said.

BNP while in power tried to divert the grenade case to another
direction, but people of the country have come to know the real picture
behind the carnage for accurate evidences.

The ruling party leader, however, said the BNP will again kill the people
if they come to power, Tofail said.

Regarding the repression and brutality unleashed by the BNP, the minister
urged the people to cast their vote in favour of AL for averting all the evil
works of BNP.

Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharraf Hossain, Vice-chairman M Younus Hazi,
District Awami League Joint General Secretary Enamul Haq Arzoo and organizing
secretary Mainul Hossen Biplob also spoke on the occasion.
