Fire at Bangladesh Police Academy

RAJSHAHI, Aug 18, 2018 (BSS)-A fire broke out at Bangladesh Police Academy
(BPA) at Sardah under Charghat upazila in the district early this morning
without causing any casualties.

Academy sources said the fire that lasted for about 45 minutes gutted
valuable documents and daily essentials of 64 cadets residing there.

Mijanur Rahman, Superintendent of Police (Administration) at the BPA, told
local journalists that the fire broke out around 5:45am when the cadets were
doing physical training (PT).

He said the incident occurred on the ground floor of a six-storey building
where 64 outside cadets (trainee sub-inspectors) used to reside.

On information, three firefighting units from Puthia, Charghat and Rajshahi
stations rushed to the spot and doused the fire around 6:30am, said Farhad
Hossain, Senior Station Officer of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense.

He said the extent of loss might be worth Taka 10 to 12 lakh. He, however,
said the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shahabuddin Ahmed said a five-member
probe body headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Sharif Ahmed has
been formed to inquire into the incident.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within next seven days.
