National Mourning Day observed in city

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2018 (BSS) – The National Mourning Day observed amid
paying homage at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu museum premises here in the morning.

People of all strata, leaders and activists from different political,
social, cultural organizations including the ruling Awami League flooded on
the street in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi here since morning.

President M Abdul Hamid paid tribute by placing floral wreaths at the
portrait of Father of the Nation at 6.30am. Then Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Syed Mahmud
Hossain paid homage at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

As member of the party chief Sheikh Hasina along with cabinet members and
central leaders of the Awami League (AL) paid tribute at the portrait of
Bangabandhu here.

Later, the associate bodies of the ruling AL, different social and
cultural organization also paid their tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu
by placing floral wreaths.

AL Advisory Council Members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, presidium
members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Mohammad Nasim, Advocate Sahara Khatun, Dr
Abdur Razzaque, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary
Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organizing Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, AKM
Enamul Haq Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Shawpan,
Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Office Secretary Dr
Abdus Sobhan Golap, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus
Sabur, Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hosssain and Deputy
Office Secretary Biplob Barua were also accompanied to the Prime Minister
during this time.

After paying the tribute, Prime Minister visited the historic Bangabandhu
Bhaban at Dhanmondi road-32 and visited the memorable things of her father
inside the house. The PM stayed the house for nearly half an hour and she
moved to the Banani graveyard for paying homage to her other family members
who had been killed along with her father on August 15 in 1975.

As part of the tribute, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in one stage
scattered petals of the rose at the stair of Bangabandhu Bhaban where the
body of Father of the Nation was laid down. Sheikh Hasina then recited the
holy Quran staying in a room of the Bangabandhu house. Sheikh Hasina’s
younger sister Sheikh Rehana was present during this time.

Meanwhile people of all strata including male,female, students of schools
and colleges and children and adolescents were crowded on the street of
Dhanmondi road-32 within 6am.

Dhaka city Awami League North and South Unit, Awami Jubo League, Awami
Swechchhasebok League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, Jatiya Sramik
League, Bangladesh Krishak League, Bangladesh Chatra League, Chatra League
Dhaka University Unit, Chatra League Dhaka city South and North also paid
tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) led by Information Minister and JSD
President Hasanul Haq Inu and Workers Party of Bangladesh led by Social
Welfare Minister and its president Rashed Khan Menon paid tribute at the
portrait of Bangabandhu here.

The journalists and employees on behalf of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha
(BSS), a national news agency, have paid tribute at the portrait of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The central 14-party leaders paid tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu
by placing floral wreaths at 10 am.

Besides, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Information Ministry,
Dhaka University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Sher-e
Bangla Agriculture University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture
University, Jagannath University, University Grant Commission (UGC), National
University, Open University, Jatiya Press Club, family members of the war
wounded freedom fighters, National Human Right Commission, Supreme Court
Lawyers Association, Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB), Mohila Sramik
