Don’t want abuse of internet, facebook: Jabbar

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2018 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology minister Mustafa Jabbar today said abuse of internet and social media, especially facebook, are not expected in any way.

“IT (abuse) should be monitored with strong hands and state is responsible for doing the job. . . Government is working on it,” he said.

The minister is addressing the opening ceremony of the three-day conference “18th APT Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF-18)” as the chief guest in a city hotel.

Emphasizing the necessity of finding the way of digital security, he said they would take 2/3 months more time for minimizing the abuse of social networking platform.

Mentioning the population of Bangladesh as human resources, Jabbar said, “We have move forward riding on information technology with the utilization of the human resources.”

The minister also laid emphasis on the evolvement of new technology.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Shaym Sundar Shikder, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) acting Chairman Md Jahurul Haque, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) regional director on Asia and Pacific Ioani Koroivuki and Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Secretary General Areewan Haorangsi also spoke in the ceremony.

The PRF-18 concentrates on policy and regulatory affairs regarding telecommunication and ICT.
