DHAKA, Nov 6, 2017 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today dismissed BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s petition pleading to shift Zia Orphanage Trust graft trial proceedings against her from the current trial court.

“Dismissed,” said the five-member Appellate Division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah.

The apex court came up with the order rejecting the BNP chief’s leave to appeal petition against a High Court order dated August 20, which had dismissed Khaleda’s plea with some observation.

The proceedings of the case is now going on at Dhaka 5th special judge court and Khaleda is submitting statement in her defence at the stage.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on July 3, 2008, filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station, accusing Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzling Taka 21 million brought from abroad meant for the orphans.
