Moazzem was professional and iconic journalist: Speakers

DHAKA, Aug 04, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers in a commemorative discussion today said late Financial Express Editor AHM Moazzem Hossain was a professional and iconic journalist who performed his duties with honesty, morality and neutrality.

They observed Moazzem Hossain was a pioneer in the field of economic journalism and a towering personality as well.

Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) organized the discussion on the life of the English Daily Financial Express (FE) Editor A H M Moazzem Hossain at ERF office. He was the founding president of ERF.

Chairman of the FE Board of Directors and ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman was present on the occasion as chief guest while Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad as special guest.

Mahbubur Rahman said Moazzem Hossain had established the FE 25 years ago and only Taka 50 lakh were given for it in two installments.

“In the beginning, we had no interest for it, but agreed to continue for his repeated insistence . . . now we have 40 share holders. FE runs by its own and gives dividend to shareholders, and it has been possible only for Moazzem Hossain,” he said.

“All has been possible due to his (Moazzem) dedication, courage, professionalism and honesty,” he added.

“Moazzem was a man with all good qualities,” stated Mahbubur Rahman.

Abul Kalam Azad said: “It is really tough to maintain honesty in this era. But, Moazzem Hossain spent his life with honesty which is exemplary for us.”

In the beginning of the event, a documentary was presented with a theme on the thinking of Moazzem Hossain about ERF and Economic Journalism. Former ERF President Zakaria Kajol moderated the session.

Veteran ERF member Ershad Majumder, former secretary of Jatiyo Press Club Qamrul Islam Chowdhury, Daily Sangbad Managing Editor Kashem Humayun, former secretaries of ERF Badiul Alam, Sajjadur Rahman and Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu, newly appointed press minister to Bangladesh High Commission in London Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury and Faruk Ahmed, among others, spoke on the occasion with ERF President Saif Islam Dilal in the chair.

Later, a special Doa was offered seeking eternal peace of late Moazzem Hossain.
