Govt stands by COVID-19 affected farmers :Rezaul

DHAKA, June 13, 2021 (BSS)- Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said that under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government has stood by the farmers affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Cash incentives have been given to farmers in the fisheries and livestock sector this year for the first time. Besides, low-interest loans have been provided under the materials assistance and incentive package,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to leaders of Bangabandhu Veterinary Parishad at the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry’s office room at the secretariat here.

He said that milk, eggs, fish and meat produced by the farmers have been collected and sold online and through mobile market amid the pandemic.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is getting special importance considering the scope of work and performance in the country and abroad, he said, adding that the government, therefore, is trying its best to take the fisheries and livestock sector forward through this ministry.

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Raunak Mahmud, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University former Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abusaleh Mahfuzul Bari, Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Md Siddiqur Rahman, Bangabandhu Veterinary Parishad President Md Imran Hossain Khan, Senior Vice President Khandaker Md Helal Uddin, Vice President Dr Md Anisur Rahman and Secretary General Dr Md Azizul Islam were present, among others, on the occasion.
