BNP wants to make Zia a heralder of Independence: AL

CHATTOGRAM, June 12, 2021 (BSS)- City Awami League (AL) leaders said that BNP wants to distort history and make Zia as a heralder of independence.

However, the Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence was made by MA Hannan, the then general secretary of AL Chattogram district.

Leaders of the Chattoggram city AL said this while paying homage at the Chaitanyagoli grave yard of late MA Hannan, one of the organizers of Liberation War, former general secretary of undivided Chattogramg District AL and the first reader of Bangabandhu’s Declaration of Independence from Kalurghat Independent Bengali Revolutionary Radio Center.

After handing over the wreath, acting president of City AL Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, said that MA Hannan is an important part of the political history of Bangladesh AL. He had a courageous role in establishing an independent Bengali revolutionary radio station, he added.

“This was the man who fought the war of resistance. The new generation needs to know about him,” he said.

Former mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, also general secretary of city AL, said that the voice of MA Hannan, the first reader of Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence from Kalurghat Biplobi Betar Kendra at noon on March 26, was a historic moment to inspire the nation to armed struggle.

City AL vice-presidents Alhaj Naeem Uddin Chowdhury, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury Bachchu, AL leader Alhaj Safar Ali, City AL Organizing Secretary Noman Al Mahmud, Shafiq Adnan, Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni, Law Secretary advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Simul Chowdhury, AL leaders Chandan Dhar, Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury, Haji Mohammad Hossain, Didarul Alam Chowdhury, Mahbubul Haque Mia and Shahidul Alam, among others, attended the function.

Meanwhile, Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury Foundation paid floral tributes at the grave of the late MA Hannan on his death anniversary.

On behalf of the organization, leaders including Naeem Uddin Chowdhury, Shafiq Adnan, Chandan Dhar and Haji Mohammad Hossain laid wreaths at the grave of their late leader.
