Covid-19 cases hit 32,840 with 60 afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 14, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 60 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division during the last 24 hours till Thursday, climbing the number of infections to 32,840.

The daily new infection figure shows a slight declining trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 66, said the health department sources.

Among the infected patients, 29,757 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 119 new recoveries found during that time, sources said.

A total of 3,697 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 8,055 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 6,861 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 22 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 110 others were released during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 513 including 305 in Bogura and 76 in Rajshahi including 49 in its city while two more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 12 were detected in Rajshahi including eight in its city, followed by 11 in Chapainawabganj, 10 in Bogura and Pabna, six in Joypurhat, five in Sirajganj, four in Natore and two in Naogaon districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the Covid-19 cases now stands at 8,011 in Rajshahi including 6,425 in its city, 1,081 in Chapainawabganj, 2,080 in Naogaon, 1,581 in Natore, 1,612 in Joypurhat, 12,044 in Bogura, 3,521 in Sirajganj and 2,910 in Pabna.

A total of 71,398 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 69,997 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,71,991 people received the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8.

Of them, 5,340 people including 2,125 females took the second jab Wednesday, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS today.

He said 310 including 137 females received vaccines in Rajshahi city and 633 people including 231 females in Rajshahi district, 469 including 171 females in Chapainawabganj, 376 including 158 females in Natore and 903 people including 376 females in Naogaon have got the vaccines Wednesday.

Apart from this, a total of 578 persons including 271 females got vaccines in Pabna, 546 including 195 females in Sirajganj, 1,259 including 495 females in Bogra and 266 including 91 females in Joypurhat today received the vaccines on the day, he added.
