2 cases filed over Ctg power plant workers killing

CHATTOGRAM, April 18, 2021 (BSS) – Two cases have been filed in connection with the killing of five workers in a clash between police and labourers at an under construction coal based power plant at Gandamara Union under Banshkhali upazila here.

Besides, two separate investigation committees have been formed by the district administration and the district police to investigate into matter.
Shafiul Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banshkhalithana, confirmed that two cases were filed this morning (Sunday morning) against 2,500 people and 72 people in another case.

Power Plant official Farooq Ahmed filed another case against 22 identified people and 40 to 50 unidentified people.

The cases also mentioned that this incident took place between the police and the workers on Saturdayfollowing a protest of workers over salary and allowance, leaving five workers dead.

Earlier, the district administration had formed a four-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Sumoni Akhter. The committee was asked to submit an investigation report within the next three working days.

Chattogram Range DIG Anwar Hossain said that another three-member investigation committee has been formed by the district police headed by its Additional DIG Zakir Hossain.

The committee has been asked to submit an investigation report within the next seven working days.

Meanwhile, the power plant authority has informed that each family of the deceased will be given Tk 3 lakh as compensation and each of the injured will be given assistance of Tk 50,000.
