Noted film actor Wasim to be buried at Banani graveyard

DHAKA, April 18, 2021 (BSS) – Eminent actor of Bangla film Wasim will be buried at Banani graveyard after Zohr prayers.

“His first Namaj-e-janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after the Zohr prayers and he will be buried at Banani graveyard after the second Namaj-e-janaza there,” confirmed by Film Artists Association’s general secretary Zayed Khan.

Popular superstar of Bangla cinema Wasim breathed his last around 12:40 am on Sunday due to old-age complications while undergoing treatment at Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital in the capital.

Wasim got married with film artist Rozi Samad’s younger sister and they had a son–Dewan Fardhin and a daughter Bushra Ahmed who died in 2006 at the age of 14 years. His wife also died in 2000.

His son Fardhin is now engaged in the law profession as Barrister after completing LLM degree from Cardiff University in London.

Born on March 23 in 1950 at Farazikandi of Amirabad under Uttar Matlab in Chandpur district, Wasim’s real name is Mejbah Uddin Ahmed.

“When he studied in college, Wasim was known as body-builder and conferred ‘East Pakistan’ title in 1964 for body-building,” according to a release.

Wasim, also known as an action and fantasy hero of Bangla film after appearing in the film industry by noted film Director SM Shafi, became assistant director of a film ‘Chanda Hariye Gelo’ directed by Shafi in 1972.

In 1974, he became the first actor in a film ‘Rater Par Din’ directed by another noted filmmaker Mohsin. Wasim became a superstar overnight after the tremendous success of the film and acted in a total 152 films, most of which were superhit.

The Rain, a film which introduced Wasim as an actor in the whole world, was released in 46 countries. Olivia was the actress with him in the film.

Subsequently, Wasim-Olivia jointly performed in many films and the film ‘Bahadur’ was one of them. Other films like ‘Lutera’, Lal Mem Saheb’ , ‘Bedin’ were also hit during that time.

Wasim, the noted actor also performed against other famous actresses like Sabana, Suchorita, Anju Ghosh and Sujata, was one of the topmost actors between 1973 and 1990.
