Former JU professor Tareque Shamsur Rehman passes away

SAVAR, April 17, 2021 (BSS) – Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman, a renowned political analyst and retired professor of International Relations department of Jahangirnagar University, passed away at his own flat in RAJUK Uttara Apartment Project on Saturday morning.

Chairman of JU International Relations department, Associate Professor Fazlul Halim Rana confirmed the news to BSS.

He said, ‘This morning, a housemaid went to his house and repeated knocks at the door. But she did not get any response and informed the flat authorities. Later, authorities reported the incident to local police, who broke down the door and found him dead’

The cause of his death is still unknown, he added.

Prof Rehman left behind his wife, a daughter, a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

In a message of condolence, JU Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Farzana Islam today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Prof Rehman.

The VC said, “With the death of professor Rehman, the nation has lost a prominent political analyst. He was a role model to the students and teachers for his dedication to teaching and research.”

Dr. Farzana prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
