Coronavirus: 16,989 infected, 15,875 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 13, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 16,989 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 15,875 cured since the outbreak of the pandemic amid a rapidly rising infection rate in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rapidly rose to 16,989 as 58 more patients were reported after testing 378 samples at the infection rate of 15.34 percent on Monday in the division.

“The coronavirus infection rate continues to show a hastily rising trend now amid a declining recovery rate,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,19,106 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 16,989 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.26 percent.

“The district-wise break up of 16,989 patients stands at 4,339 in Rangpur, 816 in Panchagarh, 1,457 in Nilphamari, 1,009 in Lalmonirhat, 1,075 in Kurigram, 1,597 in Thakurgaon, 5,103 in Dinajpur and 1,593 in Gaibandha,” Dr Siddiqui said.

The number of total recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,875 with the healing of 27 more infected people on Monday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 93.44 percent in the division.

“The 15,875 recovered patients include 4,058 of Rangpur, 782 of Panchagarh, 1,370 of Nilphamari, 963 of Lalmonirhat, 1,012 of Kurigram, 1,493 of Thakurgaon, 4,736 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 323 with three more deaths reported from three districts in the division on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 323 fatalities stands at 74 in Rangpur, 116 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 33 in Nilphamari, 16 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 19 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.90 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 16,989 COVID-19 infected patients, 86 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 10 at ICU beds, after recovery of 15,875 patients and 323 deaths while 752 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Meanwhile, a total of registered 5,80,462 citizens, including 3,48,139 male and 2,32,323 female, got the first dose of the vaccines with inoculation of more 2,210 people in the division on Monday.

Of them, 53,589 citizens, including 38,378 male and 15,211 female, who got the first dose of the vaccines at least two months ago, were inoculated with the second dose till Monday.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to strictly abide by the health directives for containing the rising COVID-19 infection rate.
