Sale of milk, eggs & meat at fair prices begins in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 11, 2021 (BSS) – In order to ensure nutrition to people for enhancing their immunity against the coronavirus (COVID-19), the government today launched selling of milk, eggs and meat at fair prices in the metropolis.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the programme by cutting ribbon in a function arranged strictly maintaining the health directives in Kachari Bazar area as the chief guest.

Rangpur Dairy Farmers’ Association (RDFA) and Rangpur Poultry Industry Owners’ Association (RPIOA) are implementing the process of selling milk, eggs and meat using three mobile trucks in the metropolis.

Under management of the district administration and Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP), Department of Livestock and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock are extending assistance in running the programme.

Presided over by Divisional Director of the Department of Livestock Md Shahjamal Khandker, Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. AMS Sadequr Rahman, Livestock Extension Officer Dr. Anika Tahsin Simanti, President of RDFA Latifur Rahman Milon, General Secretary SM Ashikur Rahman, President of RPIOA Akbor Hossain and its General Secretary Armanur Rahman Lincon attended the occasion.

Shahjamal said the government jointly with other organisations has started selling milk, eggs and meat in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and upcoming Ramadan to meet protein demand of the population and enhance their immune systems.

“Under the programme, the three protein enriched foodstuffs are being sold at lower prices than market prices using 10 mobile trucks in each of the eight districts under Rangpur division since Friday last,” he said.

He suggested people consuming protein-enriched milk, eggs and fish to strengthen their immune systems and enhance disease resistant capacities in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Welcoming the initiative, the chief guest said consumers can easily get milk, eggs and meat at fair prices from mobile trucks at their doorsteps during the COVID-19 pandemic and holy month of Ramadan.

“The authorities concerned must ensure a coordinated management in running the programme successfully to enable people in purchasing milk, eggs and fish easily in a hassle-free manner to meet their nutrition and increase immune systems,” he said.
