DHAKA, April 8, 2021 (BSS) – Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar has said digital commerce or D-commerce will control the whole business sector of the country in the coming days as the existing coronavirus pandemic has created an unprecedented demand for online-based business.

“High speed internet extension along with widespread network of the postal department would be a landmark for providing logistic support for promoting digital commerce,” he said while addressing a function here on Wednesday night marking the E-CAB day.

The digital commerce facilities can be extended to the remote areas by enhancing electronic or E-commerce systems through the nationwide postal service network, as the postal department has the largest workforce and network across the country.

Assuring to provide all out support from the government, the minister said D-commerce is now not only a platform for commodity sellers, but it is also a platform for the buyers as a whole. “The government is providing all out support for the development of the sector and it will continue in the days to come,” he told the function organized by the E-commerce Association.

Chaired by E-CAB president Shami Kaiser, the function was also addressed, among others, by E-CAB secretary general Mohammad Abdul Wahed Tomal, Finance Secretary Abdul Haq Tonu, joint secretary Nasima Akhter Nisha, Director Zia Ashraf and Sayeed Rahman.

The minister said the significant growth of D-commerce occurred due to the various steps taken by the government along with coordinated efforts of the E-CAB leaders.

The digital commerce will replace the conventional trading system in future, Jabbar said, adding, the digital commerce will not only reach goods in the hands of buyers but it will also reach rural farm and handicrafts products to the city dwellers.

The programme was moderated by E-cab director Asif Ahnaf.
