Historic March 7 being observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 07, 2021 (BSS) – The historic March 7 is being observed in the district as elsewhere of the country today in a befitting manner with a vow to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation and architect of
independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Marking the day, the district administration as well as district and sadar
upazila Awami League (AL) chalked out the elaborate programmes.

The day’s programmes began with the hoisting of national and party flags
atop of the party offices and placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Around 10am, deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin, superintendent of
police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam, AL, district unit, general secretary Abu
Bakar Siddique, Gaibandha municipality mayor Md. Matlubour Rahman and Sadar
upazila chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir placed wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait
here respectively.

Then, a grand rally was brought out from there and ended in front of DC
office after parading the main roads of the town.

The programme was followed by a discussion held at the conference room of
the DC here with additional deputy commissioner (General) ABM Sadiqur Rahman
in the chair.

Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Muhammad
Towhidul Islam, Abu Bakar Siddique, MD. Matlubour Rahman and Shah Sarwar
Kabir also spoke as special guests.

The speakers said on this day in 1971, the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman delivered his epoch-making speech of independence ‘Ebarer
Sangram Muktir Sangram, Ebarer Sangra Shwadinatar Sangram’ at the Race Course
Maidan, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka.

The March 7 speech of Bangabandhu had a sparkling effect on the entire
population in the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and they became united
under his efficient leadership to bravely fight for liberating the motherland
from Pakistani rule, they said.

They also lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for achieving UNESCO
recognition of the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu as the world’s
documentary heritage on October 30, 2017.

DC Abdul Matin said this speech of Bangabandhu is an essential and
undeniable chapter of our history and national life, the appeal of which is
immortal.

The appeal of Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech is everlasting and it would
continue to motivate the deprived, exploited and freedom-loving people of the
world always, he said.

Marking the day, the audio record of historic March 7 speech is being
played by AL and its associate organizations.

Various institutes, socio-cultural organisations and professional bodies
are also observing the day through holding different programmes.

A large number of government officials and AL and its front organizations’
leaders, workers and supporters participated in the programmes.
