Coronavirus: 1,08,884 samples tested in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 7, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 1,08,884 samples of suspected
coronavirus (COID-19) infected people collected from all eight districts in
Rangpur division have been tested since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Health officials said a total of 15,864 people have so far been reported
coronavirus positive after testing 1,08,884 samples at two COVID-19
Laboratories in the division at the average infection rate of 14.57 percent.

“The infection rate remains below five percent during the last more than
two months amid increasing recovery rate in the division,” Focal Person of
COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui
said.

Meanwhile, 15,205 people among the total 15,864 infected people have
already recovered at the average recovery rate of 95.85 percent in the
division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues smoothly since
February 7 last.

“The district-wise break up of total 15,864 patients stands at 4,051 in
Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,338 in Nilphamari, 966 in Lalmonirhat, 1,021 in
Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,715 in Dinajpur and 1,465 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui added.

Currently, the 15,205 recovered patients include 3,691 of Rangpur, 771
of Panchagarh, 1,302 of Nilphamari, 953 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram,
1,473 of Thakurgaon, 4,601 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts in
the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady at 308 with no more deaths reported from
anywhere in the division on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 308 fatalities stands at 72 in
Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 28 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the
division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 15,864 COVID-19 infected patients, four are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,205 patients and 308
deaths while 347 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Since launching of the vaccination campaign from February 7 last, a
total of 3,35,441 citizens, including 2,13,501 male and 1,21,940 female of
the division, were vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccines in the division till
Saturday.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 95,659 people of the
division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,257 released and 2,402 are
currently remaining in home quarantines.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
people to properly abide by the health directives to bring down the infection
rate to the zero level.
