Spontaneous VAT payment stressed to strengthen economy

RANGPUR, March 1, 2021 (BSS) – Businesspersons should pay Value Added Tax (VAT) spontaneously to strengthen the national economy for attaining financial self-reliance to further accelerate development on the way to build a developed Bangladesh.

The opinion came today at a views-exchange meeting on ‘Resolving problems
being faced by businesspersons in online VAT payment’ organised by Rangpur
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) at its auditorium in the city.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate
Shawkat Ali Sadi attended the event as the chief guest with RCCI President
Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT
Commissionerate Arun Kumar Biswas and its Assistance Commissioner Md. Sajjad
Hossain addressed the meeting as special guests.

Executives of RCCI, its Directors, leaders of different trade
organisations from across the district participated in the event arranged
abiding by the health directives in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director of RCCI Reaz Shahid Shovan, Proprietor of ‘Maya Exclusive
Fashion’ Biplob Prashad, Director of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
and Industry Ali Ahmed Chand, importer-exporter Alhaj Mogreb Ali, among
others, addressed.

They raised some problems being faced by them in paying VAT using online
facilities and other issues in the meeting.

Officials of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate narrated the
importance of using online facilities being provided by the National Board of
Revenue (NBR) in paying VAT in a hassle-free manner to enhance revenue
earning.

They put special importance on creating awareness among all concerned to
enhance revenue earning in the form of VAT for further strengthening the
national economy.

They chief guest called upon industrialists and businesspersons for
spontaneous payments of VAT to implement development of the country’s own
resources without depending on foreign assistance.

He committed to resolve the issues and problems raised in the meeting at
the earliest possible time and praised businesspersons and traders of Rangpur
for paying VAT using online facilities.

“Many least developed countries have become developed nations as their
citizens pay VAT and taxes properly,” he said, adding that the government has
launched the new VAT law to make the VAT payment process easier and hassle-
free.
