Sweet potato cultivation turns boons for Manikganj farmers

MANIKGANJ, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – The cultivation of sweet potato is
regaining its lost glory in the district that was disappeared from the
district due to various reasons.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), a total of
131 hectares of land was brought under sweet potato cultivation in all seven
upazilas in the district during the current season exceeding its fixed
target.

Earlier, the DAE set a target of sweet potato cultivation on 120 hectares
of land with a production target of 2,240 tonnes during the current season.

The harvesting of sweet potato has already started and the cultivators are
happy after getting high price of the agri produce.

Hashem Ali of Nabagram village under Manikganj sadar upazila said, “Sweet
potato cultivation is very easy and it needs no fertilizer and irrigation.”
