Ferry service resumes after 6 hours on Paturia-Daulatdia route

MANIKGANJ, Jan 22, 2021 (BSS) – Ferry service resumed today after six hours on Paturia-Daulatdia route to the convenience of thousands of passengers and goods-laden vehicles.

The ferry service on the route remained suspended for six hours.

Today the ferry movement started at 4am after 6 hours of suspension to avert any untoward incident due to dense fog.

Md. Jillur Rahman, deputy general manager (DGM), BIWTC, Pauria Ghat said the ferry movement started at about 4 am on Saturday when the dense fog began to disappear.

BIWTC Paturia ghat sources said the ferry movement on the route remained suspended from 10 pm on Friday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river route.

Seven ferries loaded with buses, private cars and trucks including passengers were stranded in the middle of the Padma river during this period.

Jillur Rahman also said though the passenger buses and private cars were ferried with priority, but about 200 vehicles, including passenger buses, private cars and trucks, have remained in a queue at Paturia ghat for ferrying till now.

The movement of all kinds of engine-driven boats, country boats and launches were also suspended during this period, the sources added.
