14,806 COVID-19 patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2021 (BSS) – The number of recovered coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rose to 14,806 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues declining and recovery rate rising during the last five weeks.

Health officials said eight more coronavirus infected patients recovered on Friday raising their total number to 14,806 out of total 15,669 infected patients in the division at the average recovery rate of 94.49 percent.

The 14,806 recovered patients include 3,577 of Rangpur, 748 of Panchagarh, 1,289 of Nilphamari, 941 of Lalmonirhat, 956 of Kurigram, 1,409 of Thakurgaon, 4,469 of Dinajpur and 1,417 of Gaibandha districts.

“Only four new patients were reported after testing of 95 samples at the daily infection rate of 4.21 percent in the division on Friday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday, 3.19 percent on Tuesday, 4.64 percent on Monday, 6.79 percent on Sunday and 2.92 percent on Saturday last in the division.

“The daily infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last five weeks bringing relief to common people in the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,00,391 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Friday, and of them, 15,669 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.61 percent.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,669 patients stands at 3,989 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,646 in Dinajpur and 1,454 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 302 with no more deaths reported from anywhere in the division on Friday.

The district-wise break- up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,669 COVID-19 infected patients, 30 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,806 patients and 302 deaths while 531 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu expressed satisfaction over the declining trend in the COVID-19 infection rate in Rangpur division.

“Common people should sincerely wear masks while remaining outside and strictly abide by the health directives of the government to remain safe and prevent further community spread of the deadly virus,” he added.
