325 landless families to get houses in Narail

NARAIL, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 325 landless, homeless families of three upazilas of the district are going to get brick-built houses as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The construction work of 105 houses has already been completed. Another 220 houses will be constructed for the landless and homeless people in the stipulated time, said deputy commissioner (DC) Muhammad Habibur Rahman at a press briefing and view exchange meeting here this noon.

The homeless and landless families will get their shelters to live permanently in these houses, the DC added.

Additional deputy commissioner (general) Md. Yearul Islam and additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Md. Fakhrul Hasan were also present at the occasion.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Department sources said, a total of Taka 5 crore 55 lakh 75 thousand has been allocated for the construction of the disaster-resistant 325 houses in Narail sadar, Lohagora and Kalia upazila of the district.

DC Habibur Rahman said it was a special initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to provide houses to landless and homeless families on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In the first phase, a total of 105 landless, homeless families of the upazilas will get the houses by January 23 and in the second phase a total of 220 houses will be built in the upazilas.

On behalf of Ashrayan Project-2 of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has been constructing the houses, said district relief and rehabilitation officer Md. Mizanur Rahaman.

Main thrust of the initiative is to improve the standard of living ensuring basic needs of the landless, homeless and distress people, he said.
