85 transgender people get food support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS) – Some 85 transgender people were given food support aimed at mitigating their livelihood related crisis being caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic situation.

Each of them was given a food package containing 12 kilograms of rice, three kilograms of potato and two kilograms of pulse, edible oil, salt and onion to make sure their one month’s meal.

Light House Consortium in association with German Doctors and ICDDR, B gave the food support adjacent to Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi city today through maintaining social distancing and other health safety guidelines amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr Quiume Talukder accompanied by others concerned distributed the support.

Light House Project Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul told BSS that 1,210 transgender people are being brought under the food assistance programme in different parts of the country at present so that they can cope with the present pandemic situation.

In addition, there is also a plan of bringing 2,250 transgender and other extremely socially excluded people under the humanitarian assistance in phases amid the pandemic situation.
