Leadership, effective steps, skill keys to development: Muhith

DHAKA, July 11, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister AMA Muhith today observed that three tools- strong leadership, effective steps and skilled manpower- are the key instruments for achieving remarkable success in the country’s socio-economic development.

“The first tool of the country’s remarkable success is leadership. The leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very strong and dynamic. She is now a world leader,” he said while addressing a discussion at the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) auditorium in the city.

Bangladesh Study Trust organised the discussion titled “Upcoming Sylhet-Development and Expectation for Future”. Bangladesh Study Trust Chairman Dr. A K Abdul Momen presided over the discussion.

Among others, Parliament Member M Yahya Chowdhury and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad were present at the discussion.

Muhith said effective and time-befitting initiatives undertaken by the Awami League governments propelled Bangladesh to create success stories in socio-economic development. And this is the second tool for achieving success in all indicators of development, he added.

The finance minister said the people of the country are very skilled as they can easily make ways for the tasks entrusted on them. This is the third tool for success, he added.

Muhith said the country has achieved successes in all indicators, including electricity supply and life expectancy, under the prudent policy and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Expressing his satisfaction over the country’s development, he said, “Now I can go on retirement with satisfaction,” he added.

He also informed that the Sylhet Medical University Bill will be placed before the Jatiya Sangsad in the next session and the present government can lay the foundation stone in its current tenure.

Kholiquzzaman underscored the need for increasing investment in the Sylhet region for achieving the sustainable development in the country.

Momen said Sylhet city will be the first digital city in the country as the government has taken a programme in this regard.

“People of Sylhet city will get many facilities from their homes. Free WiFi access will be available in all areas of the city. Gradually, other cities will also be turned into digital cities,” he added.
