Winter veg prices come down in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Jan18, 2021 (BSS) – Prices of winter vegetables have gradually come down with the arrival of huge seasonal vegetables in the local markets of the district.

Some traders of vegetables in different upazilas said prices of vegetables recorded a declining trend with the plenty of supply of winter vegetables in the wholesale and retail markets.

They said at the early days of the winter (November 1st week to December 1st week) lucrative vegetable price has brought smile on the face of the farmers in the district.

Different kinds of winter vegetables grow aplenty in Shibpur, Belabo and Raipura upazilas of the district.

A BSS correspondent last week visited a number of whole-sale vegetable markets in different upazilas of the district and found that farmers are selling their vegetables at reasonable prices.

Been, Brinjal are selling at Tk 400 to 500 per maund. Cauliflower and cabbage are selling at Tk 500 to 600 per hundred, Gourd and pumpkin are selling at Tk 1500 to 3000 per hundred according to size. Tomato at Tk 600 to 800 per maund. Potato at Tk 600 to 700 per maund. Radish is selling at 150 to 200 per maund. Lalshak and Palong shak are selling at Tk 400 to 450 per maund in the district.

Narsingdi district, a vegetable surplus area, usually supplies 30 to 40 percent of its total production to the capital and other districts after meeting the local demands.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) fixed a target of producing 1,75000 tons of various winter vegetables from 9100 hectares of land but the farmers cultivated more lands and reaped a good production of vegetables this season in the district.
