DHAKA, July 8, 2018 (BSS) – Vessels on the Bay of Bengal and rivers are going to get fastest internet for communication replacing the old system, thanks to Bangabandhu-I, Bangladesh’s first communication satellite.
Both maritime and river vessels will get 24-hour real time information on weather and other emergency services using the satellite.
To this end, the Ministry of Shipping and the Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) today struck a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad and BCSCL Managing Director Saiful Islam signed the MoU at the Shipping Ministry.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikder and officials concerned were present.
As per the MoU, BCSCL will also provide internet connectivity to sea ports, river ports, ferry ghats and other establishments of shipping ministry.
Officials said over 35,000 domestic vessels and nearly 150 maritime vessels move inside Bangladesh territory every day which would be brought under direct monitoring and network using the Bangabandhu-I. Now, people will get chance to enjoy satellite televisions and other facilities on the vessels.
