CCC to construct bus terminal, conservancy staff colony

CHATTOGRAM, July 7, 2018 (BSS) – Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has taken up two projects worth about TK 1,464.48 crore to construct a bus terminal and a residential colony for its conservancy employees, an official
said today.

The construction work of the proposed bus terminal is expected to begin in December next in Kulgaon area on outskirts of the city to stop indiscriminate parking of public transports on city streets, CCC chief engineer Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed told BSS.

He said the corporation will construct the terminal at a cost of TK 1230.74 crore on eight acres of land in line with Chattogram Development Authority’s (CDA) master plan.

CCC has taken another project of TK 233.74 crore to construct a colony for its conservancy staffs in the city for resolving their nagging accommodation problems.

Ahmed said the site for bus terminal at Kulgaon has been finalized after the coordination meeting with Roads and Highways Department, Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA),
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Department of Environment (DoE).

He added the projects now are waiting for approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), hoping that the two projects are expected to be approved by this month.

He further said CCC will be able to complete tender procedure by October, adding the construction work of the two projects is expected to be completed within next two years.

The roads around the proposed bus terminal with constructions of some bridges will also be developed within very short time, the chief engineer continued.

He said after completion of the bus terminal, the traffic congestion that is witnessed by the commuters at Oxygen intersection will be eased to a great extent.
