Bangladesh to set another instance by implementing SDGs: Tofail

DHAKA, July 5, 2018 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said
Bangladesh will set another instance by implementing Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) on time like as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

“Bangladesh is moving ahead successfully with the action plan to
implement SDGs on time under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,”
he said while addressing a national conference on SDGs as the chief guest.

General Economic Division (GED) of Planning Commission and Governance
Innovation Unit of Prime Minister’s Office organized the three-day national
conference on the review of SDGs implementation in capital’s Bangabandhu
International Conference Centre, said a press release.

United Nations (UN) has set 17 goals with 169 targets and 241 indicators
to attain UN sustainable development.

Mentioning that Bangladesh started working to attain SDGs in 2015 and
first phase of it has been completed on June 30, the minister revealed that
the mid-term phase to attain the goals will be completed in 2020 while the
long-term phase will end in 2030.

“Bangladesh is moving forward towards balanced development pinning with
the SDGs,” added Tofail.

BRAC Founder and Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed spoke as special guest
with Chief Coordinator on SDGs Affairs of Prime With Minister’s Office Md
Abul Kalam Azad in the chair, the seminar was also addressed by Former Senior
Secretary of Public Administration Dr Mozammel Haque Khan and GED member Dr
Shamsul Alam.
