Ensuring nutrition to all to build healthy nation stressed

GAIBANDHA, Oct 28, 2020 (BSS) – Speakers in a function here have underscored the need for ensuring nutrition to all particularly mother and children to promote their health condition to build a healthy nation.

“Good nutrition can help reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart diseases, diabetes, stroke, some cancers and osteoporosis”, they also said.

They made the observations while addressing an inaugural function of a three-day long food-based nutrition affairs training at the hall room of Gobindaganj upazila parishad in the district on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN), regional office Pirganj, Rangpur arranged the training in cooperation with Gobindaganj upazila agriculture office.

Deputy director(DD) of Department of Agricultural Extension(DAE) agriculturist Masudur Rahman attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and senior scientific officer of BIRTAN, regional office, Dr. Sadequl Islam was present at the event as the special guest while upazila agriculture officer agriculturist Md. Khaledur Rahman presided over the function.

The speakers also said good nutrition can help reduce high blood pressure, lower high cholesterol, improve well-being, improve the ability to fight of illness and increase the energy level of human body.

In the short term, poor nutrition can contribute to stress, tiredness and our capacity to work, and over time, it can contribute to the risk of developing some illnesses and other health problems such as: being overweight or obese, tooth decay, high blood pressure, they also said.

Later, the chief guest formally inaugurated the training.

A total of 60 sub assistant agriculture officers, teachers, imams, priests and social workers are participating in the training.
