Saudi road accident kills 5 Bangladeshis: official

DHAKA, July 4, 2018 (BSS) – At least five Bangladeshis were killed and 11 others were critically wounded as a microbus carrying them in the country’s western Jeddah city crashed this morning, Bangladeshi embassy officials in Saudi Arabia said.

“We have so far confirmed deaths of five Bangladeshis and 11 others, who received serious injury, are taking treatment in four different hospitals,” Head of Chancery of Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah Mostafa Jamil Khan told BSS.

Khan said consulate officials including counsellor (local) Md Altaf Hossain are there in the hospitals to look after the injured ones.

It was learned that the microbus carrying 16 Bangladeshi workers was on its way to Avr from Gulail in Jeddah.

“The microbus collided side on with a police van and turned upside down after hitting the footpath on King Abdul Aziz Road in between Summary Court and Red Sea Mall area at around 5.30 am Saudi time,” Jeddah consulate sources said.
